Cold Garden

Here is Mark's newest song. It takes a second to start so wait for it.

Croquet is dangerous

Many may think that croquet is a calm relaxing sport but I am here to tell you otherwise. Croquet is DANGEROUS. This past saturday Mark and I joined the boys for their weekly game of croquet. Maybe it was the extra challenging course or maybe it was karma getting us back for the pre game cheap beef bbq. Whatever is was this game was crazy. Mark made crazy awesome shots as usual. Henly shot his ball straight into a tree. Mark got stuck on a rock and hit his ball so hard that it shot off the rock and into his face busting the inside of his lip open. Then about fifteen minutes later Joey took a mallet to the ear from Henly, cutting the inside so badly that it blead for the rest of the game. The game ended with Matt taking first place and the gold lion pin (our trophee). I'm hoping that Mark or I will take it next week or at least finish uninjured.

Decorating

I finished painting the window that will become a coffee table and Mark designed the structure and legs while we were eating lunch saturday. It should be finished by next weekend. I cut all of the pieces for our couch cover but havn't had time to sew it together yet. The cats were going crazy playing with and laying on the fabric while I was trying to measure and cut it. I also painted one of the free book shelves that will hold all my sewing stuff.

Making friends

I would love to post more on the weekdays so that I don't have 8 million things to say by the time the weekend comes. Oh well, maybe I'll do better this week. So Mark and I are finally making some friends. So remember that guy that I met on the plane? Well... him and his wife invited us to dinner at their favorite restaurant in China town. Mark and I were admittingly a little nervous about the dinner. They are a married couple with two children and he's a lawyer. What in the world were we going to talk about? Well the restraunt was great and so was the conversation. They were so nice and not trying to be cool which is what most people here do. I also bought one of her adorable stuffed animals. It was a big hit with the cats.

We also hung out more with "the boys". The picture above is of all of us hanging out. Everyone was required to wear a red hat. We had a delicious Easter lunch with them at El Greco (a local Greek restaurant).

Reading statistics are going down.

What are you reading? I'm reading through all the Steinbeck books. Right now I'm on East of Eden. Mark is reading a book on consumerism, but I'm not sure of the title.

Just another weekend.

Well another weekend has gone by. I would say that it was pretty productive. Mark and I are getting over being sick so on friday we stayed in and rested. On Saturday we went to Burbank for some lunch and shoe shopping. Then we headed to Occidental College for a mean game of croquet. This is a weekly tradition with "the boys" (some cool guys that we met through my friend Andrea). Mark surprised all of us with an amazing one handed technique that would send the ball flying through the wicket and putting us all to shame.

After the intense game of croquet we both were really craving monkey bread. Our house was soon filled the amazing smell of baking butter biscuits coated in cinnamon and sugar. mmmmmmmm. Mark then headed out to hang out with Jon while I stayed in since I was still getting over my cold. I worked on logo's for me and Andrea's e-bay sight. Mark didn't stay out very long due to the fact that the hangout choice ended up being very Hollywood with lots of people "in the business" (of making movies) including two girls named Bambi and Annie. This place is weird.

On Sunday I got working on decorating our apartment. We decided on a cholor scheme of red and mint. I painted the back of the front door red and am planning on painting a stencil of an animal (still undecided what animal) around the hall entrance red. We are building a coffee table out of an old window and old table legs. I am painting that mint tonight.

Of course Andrea and I did our usual Jet Rag sale this morning. I found a cashmere sweater and an Oscar De La Renta sweater both for a dollar. Then we headed downtown to the fashion district for some fabric shopping. I bought some beautiful upholstery fabric to make a new couch cover with.

Ok... well Mark is making dinner and I need to work on the coffee table.

Side Project

Mark and I have so many side projects going on that we barely have the time or energy to finish one.

Mark is seriously considering going to the Los Angeles Recording School ( www.larecordingschool.com ) and has been talking about all the awesome jobs he has discovered in that field. He was telling me this evening that he saw a job opening for a sound engineer in D.C. recording court room proceedings. I guess they pay the big bucks there. I was laughing so hard listening to him describe putting reverb on the jury. He recently finished a song with Jon and you can listen to it on their myspace sight ( http://www.myspace.com/tableauxsounds ).

I have been starting an e-bay vintage store with my friend Andrea. Thats what the above pictures are all about. We plan on "opening" the e-bay store mid-April but there is a lot of work to be done before that can happen. Mark and I are still in the process of putting our apartment together. We recently got two free book shelves that someone was throwing out. I'll take some pictures soon so that you guys can see the progress.

L.A. Couple Barely Escapes Blizzard of 08

I was not so secretly hoping for some snow during our visit to Columbus this past weekend. Christmas was dissapointing and and not so white. March snows in Ohio are notorious for being blizzards so I should have thought it through before I started wishing away so carelessly. Sure enough we were pummled with 20 some inches (don't quote me on that, I'm just quoting a guy at the airport). Of course we didn't let it ruine our weekend. So here's what happened.

On thursday I headed to CCAD to meet up with old friends and teachers while Mark and a van full of guys headed to the woods for some quality cabin time. While the boys ate 6 pounds of pasta and 2 dozen donuts I opted for sushi and edamame with my bf Sara. I agreed to attend the CCAD Industrial Design Freshman Recruitment where we try to convince as many freshman as possible that Industrial Design is the best career available at CCAD (which I guess is true). The boys worked off their dinner with some Wii Olympics (the new video gaming system). I however got ice cream with a couple friends at Jenny's and reviewed my friend portfolio. Then I headed back to Sara's where we ate chocolate chip cookies and watched Lil' Bush untill we were too tired to keep our eyes open.

On Friday I headed back to CCAD with Sara and chit chatted with friends until the boys made it through the growing snow mounds back to Columbus. We spent the rest of friday with our friends who are getting married soon. The next day we surveyed the damage and decided to head to the store on foot for supplies. The rest of the day was pretty lazy and consisted mostly of food and sleep. That night I was determined to get out though. I had some friends going to a local dance spot and was hoping to meet them there. We didn't find out that it was closed until we were there so we headed to a near by friends house where we spent the rest of the evening.

On Sunday my parents met up with me in Columbus. We got lunch and went over taxes (blech!). Mark met up with friends for lunch. Then we were off to the airport to head back to sunny 80 degree LA.

I met a very nice man on the plane which made the hours fly by. He was telling me all about his creative wife and two little girls. His wife sells the cutest little handmade stuffed animals on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5550996

So now we are back and Mark just made a delicious dinner so I better go.
