Hang in There

I recently purchased this adorable "Hang in There" t-shirt from Mountain t shirts. It's possibly the cutest shirt in existence. Although the ten kittens shirt, also from Mountain t shirts, is pretty cute too. I'm wearing my new shirt with the skirt that I just finished. It turned out really nice. The zipper was a little tricky but the shape and length are perfect.

Cat in the Bag

Oscar is the most needy cat I have ever encountered. She really wants to be carried everywhere and held constantly. Mark came up with this little trick last night so we could get some work done without neglecting her. I was laughing so hard because she really liked it... for the first 5 minutes.

Of course.

I have this chair in front of the door because I'm about to get rid of it. Of course that is when Mary decides that it's her most absolute favorite thing in the whole world.

I'm sorry

I want to take the time to apologize to Oscar for implying in the previous post that Oscar was not interesting enough to carry the blog post on her own. So to show just how sorry I am I will take a moment to tell the story of Oscar, the girl cat with a boy name.

A few days after moving to L.A. I learned that my co-worker Oscar was trying to figure out how to take care of a baby kitten that his friend had come upon. I gave him the run down of the basics since I had just raised our cat Mary from birth (it's NOT easy!). His friend could not keep the little black kitten because she has two dogs that were just dying to eat it. So I offered to take the kitten.

Oscar soon met Mary and they were quickly best friends. We named Oscar after my co-worker (assuming it was a boy cat) and quickly started to question whether or not this little kitten was "special" or not. Well soon enough we found out that yes indeed Oscar is a girl and yes she is "special".

There are lots of things to love about Oscar. She is the most loving and cuddly cat you will ever meet. She prefers to be carried around with her arms wrapped around me. She figures out how to get under the blankets every morning and curl up next to my legs. Her favorite toys are loose box lids, spools of thread, paper, and the dangerous loops of plastic bags. She also blends into me in pictures.

So Oscar, I am sorry that I would even think of implying that you are not interesting or important to me. You are the cutest girl cat with a boy name that I've ever met.

Decorating sneak peak

Those beautiful watercolors were done by Mark. The second picture is Mary sitting in our new end table. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to put there but it looks like Mary has reserved the spot. O.K. so the last picture doesn't actually have anything to do with decorating. It's Mary and squirrel having a stare down.

Shades of green

I finished sewing together a couple throw pillows yesterday and thought it was a good time to photograph our bedroom. I like taking pictures in the morning while I have good natural light. This also means that I have to get up a little early or like today, rush around like a crazy, so I can still catch my train to work. I didn't even really look at the pictures until later and was pleasantly surprised. I painted the border and sewed and dyed the curtains a while ago. The heart lights have been there since Christmas but I like them so much I haven't taken them down. It sort of just all came together.

The cats were kind enough to pose for me. If you look at the last picture you can see Mary already trying to bite the buttons off of the throw pillows.

Oscar's love affair

Our cat Oscar loves spools of thread. She knows that she is not suppose to play with them but it is sort of like a dog knowing he is not suppose to eat the steak left on the kitchen counter. She has successfully turned our living room floor into a thread web twice and I have had to pull thread out of her mouth/throat once. I took this picture the other day as I was sewing up some raccoons. Oscar was just sitting behind the machine staring at the spool as it went round and round. I guess we all have our things.

Dear Sara,

I'm sorry I don't call enough. How quickly we get caught up in our daily lives and forget. Talking to you last night made me remember how lucky I am to have found such a great friend. You make me laugh which is something I have desperately needed lately. You get me. Thanks for being there through the good and the bad.

Sincerely,
Michelle

Christmas time

So it's a little bit late to be posting this but I'm doing it anyway. Above are pictures of our Christmas decorations including a gorgeous 2008 White House Ornament which we received as a gift. We took a series of Christmas photos but the one above is my favorite because the kittens are in it too. And the box of books is my Christmas gift from mark. It is a cake box full of little dessert recipe books. So far I have made white chocolate and pear turnovers and orange cupcakes.

Fall is here!!!

Fall is slowly creeping in on Los Angeles. We finally had our first rain last weekend since... oh maybe March. The weather goes back and forth from up in the 100's to down in the 50's. Last saturday and today are especially cool and refreshing. The pictures above our....

Cat House On The Kings, No kill shelter

Steffany sent this to me yesterday and I just have to share it. This place is amazing. I hope to go visit it sometime soon so I will let everyone know if I do.

3. Oscar trying to help Mary escape from the carrier right before we took her to the vet.

4. Mark cooking.
